POTENTIAL LISTINGS FOR THE HERITAGE REGISTER

The Committee reviewed correspondence from the Allandale Neighbourhood Association (ANA) dated September 13, 2018 proposing that the following properties be added to the City of Barrie’s Municipal Heritage Register:  268 Bradford Street, 7 Burton Avenue, 25 Burton Avenue, 37 Burton Avenue, 4 Essa Road, 8 Essa Road, 59 Essa Road, 9 Granville Street, 5 Tiffin Street and 66 Tiffin Street.  C. Colebatch of the ANA noted that these residential, institutional and commercial properties were selected by their Association based upon their age, heritage attributes and original features.  Ms. Colebatch commented that these properties are included in the Heritage Barrie Walking Tours Guide.

J. Morin-Reynolds reviewed the Heritage Barrie Committee’s current process to list properties on the City’s Heritage Register.  Ms. Morin-Reynolds explained that the Committee’s process is to meet with the property owner, obtain the property owner’s consent and discuss the property’s heritage characteristics prior to listing the non-designated property on the Heritage Register.

C. Colebatch offered to forward contact information that she has obtained with permission from the property owners referenced in ANA’s recent correspondence to T. Wierzba, Staff Liaison of the Heritage Barrie Committee.

J. Morin-Reynolds advised that the Committee’s next step will be to contact the owners of the properties referred to in ANA’s correspondence dated September 13, 2018 and invite the property owners to a future Committee meeting to discuss the possibility of listing of their property on the Municipal Heritage Register.
