The Committee reviewed correspondence dated October 26, 2018 from K. Suggitt, Manager of Strategic Initiatives, Policy and Analysis regarding the Planning and Building Services Department’s project proposal to the University of Waterloo’s School of Planning.

T. Wierzba, Planner noted that the key deliverables in this project proposal are as follows:

                     Balancing the protection of heritage with increased growth pressures in the City of Barrie;

                     Reviewing best practices on policies for consideration in the City’s new Official Plan; and

                     Developing strategies and reviewing literature to communicate heritage matters with the community.

T. Wierzba, Planner advised that he would be the staff contact person with the University of Waterloo student team on this proposed initiative.  Mr. Wierzba commented that the students would be reaching out to key stakeholders in the community and the Heritage Barrie Committee as part of their research process.  He noted that, if the City of Barrie’s project proposal is selected, the University of Waterloo students would provide a final project presentation in April 2019 to City staff and stakeholders who participated in their study.

C. Tribble requested that the Committee forward their comments and/or questions concerning this project proposal to his attention as soon as possible.
