Mayor, J. Lehman provided a presentation to the Committee concerning a Shift Government Project regarding a proposal for a Student and Senior Homeshare Pilot Program.

 

Mayor Lehman discussed the following information:

 

                     An overview on the Shift Government initiatives dedicated to route problems and prevention such as aging in place, food support, and the Opioid crisis;

                     The Shift Government Team;

                     Examples of successful Student and Senior Homeshare programs in the municipalities of Hamilton and Toronto;

                     The concept of the Homeshare Program:

o                     Partnership with Georgian College;

o                     A coordinator position set up by Georgian College for the Pilot Program;

o                     Connecting seniors with students;

o                     Students enrolled in program with experience, nursing, social services etc.;

o                     Student assisting with food, odd jobs, shoveling snow etc.;

o                     Low rent costs;

o                     Forming a relationship and eliminating isolation of seniors and students;

o                     A framework agreement assisting on how they want to live and developing a relationship.

o                     A helpline to assist with issues or challenges;

 

The Committee asked a number of questions to Mayor Lehman and City staff and received responses.
