RECOMMENDED MOTION
That the names Alpine, Chappel, Cochrane, Equine, Fagan, Galloway, Helmsley, Hughes
Kneeshaw, Mabern, Maltese, McAush, Shepherd, Pope, and Walker be added to the list of
available pre-approved street names in the City of Barrie.
2. That the Mayor and City Clerk be authorized to execute a by-law to rename and renumber the
municipal addresses for those properties within the 2010 annexed area described in Schedule B
to Staff Report IDCOO2-1 1 and the affected property owners be notified in writing.
PURPOSE & BACKGROUND
3. The municipality provides a service to the community by assigning unique municipal addresses
for each property. This service primarily assists our emergency service providers (police, fire and
ambulance) to locate a specific property as quickly as possible. This service also provides a
system to identify and locate properties for the convenience of family, friends, customers, clients,
delivery companies, postal services, etc.
4. To maximize the benefit of a municipal addressing system, road names should be uniquely
different to avoid confusion and the numbers should be predictable by being sequentially
progressive with even numbers on one side and odd numbers on the other side.
5. On January 1, 2010, a portion of the Town of lnnisfil was annexed to the City of Barrie under the
Barrie-Innisfil Boundary Adjustment Act 2009. There are several existing roads in the 2010
annexed area. (See Appendix A).
