16-A-096 2  Awards and RecognitionWELCOME TO THE GERMAN STUDENT DELEGATION Mr. Dave Morrison, Chair of the International Relations Committee provided a brief history of the Youth Ambassadors/Global Perspectives Student Exchange program in Barrie. He discussed past and planned future visits as part of the student exchanges. Ms. Tina Laurer, one of the delegation leaders visiting from Zweibrücken, Germany spoke on behalf of the delegation regarding the success and the value of the exchange program. She thanked City Council for their support of the program and presented a gift to Mayor Lehman on behalf of the Zweibrücken, Germany. Mr. Morrison recognized the efforts of a past City employee related to her participation in the Student Exchange Program, by opening her home to the delegations that visit the City of Barrie. He acknowledged her service to the City of Barrie in her role as Information Clerk before she retired earlier in the year. S. Schlichter, Director of Business Development provided a presentation regarding the Small Business Centre. She discussed slides concerning the following topics · The background of the Small Business Centre; · How the Small Business Centre helps small businesses; · The achievements of the Small Business Centre, including winning the Silver Award from the International Economic Developers Council for the re-branding of the Small Business Centre website; · An overview of the Starter Company Program; and · The success stories associated with the Start Company Program.
