TMP-20361 1  Item of DiscussionMOVING FORWARD - AGE-FRIENDLY COMMUNITY PLAN C. Dillon, Accessibility Co-ordinator discussed the steps moving forward for the Age-Friendly Community Plan (“Plan”). Ms. Dillon advised that the Seniors Advisory Committee will be monitoring the Plan, and will be updated by City staff once the tasks outlined in the Plan are completed. H. Stone, provided information concerning a program that is related to a provision in the Age-Friendly Community Plan associated with continually monitoring developments in technology applicable to seniors. Ms. Stone advised that the program is called Cyber Seniors. She noted that this program connects students with seniors who reside in retirement homes to teach them how to use IPads. The Committee discussed inviting representatives from the Cyber Seniors organization to a future meeting to provide a presentation concerning their program.   Action details Not available
TMP-20362 1  Staff Report SENIOR SERVICES DIRECTORY J. Goulie, Recreation Programmer provided a publication entitled “55+ Information Directory”. Ms. Goulie advised that the directory was distributed to City residents in the Barrie Examiner in 2014 and provided information associated with: · Assistive devices; · Transportation services; · Shopping assistance; · Counselling services; · Home health care and support services; · Food services; · Accommodations and housing services; · Government, financial and legal services; · Volunteer Opportunities; · Recreation, clubs and lifelong learning; and · Community Agencies. Ms. Goulie noted that a 55+ Information Directory has not been circulated to residents since 2014. She indicated that the directory was beneficial to seniors as it offered a paper directory and easy access to assistance. The Committee deferred this item to a future meeting to in order to have staff investigate the feasibility of re-creating the 55+ Information Directory.   Action details Not available
TMP-20363 1  Item of DiscussionCNIB 100TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATIONS L. Ricardo advised that the Canadian National Institution of the Blind (CNIB) celebrated its 100th Anniversary on March 31, 2017. Ms. Ricardo provided details associated with the history of the establishment of the CNIB. She commented that the CNIB is the primary supplier of vision support through its provision of programs, and advocating for those who live with sight loss. Members of the Committee asked questions and received responses from Ms. Ricardo.   Action details Not available

TMP-20365 1  Item of DiscussionSENIORS’ NEEDING EMERGENCY SERVICES IN THEIR HOUSEHOLDS M. Malcolm discussed concerns for seniors’ who reside independently in their own households and provision of emergency services if they are physically unable to access them, including unable to get to a telephone. The Committee agreed to invite the Barrie Fire and Emergency Services and the County of Simcoe Paramedic Services to a future meeting to provide a presentation concerning emergency procedures.   Action details Not available
TMP-20366 1  Item of DiscussionEVENT CALENDAR The Committee discussed the following events: · An Easter Brunch to be held on April 17, 2017 at the Parkview Centre from 9:30 a.m. - 10:30 a.m.; and · An Age-Friendly Community Plan meeting to be held on June 16, 2017 concerning connecting the municipalities in Central Ontario that created an Age-Friendly Community Plan will be attended by two members of the Committee, R.
