TMP-20751 1  Item of DiscussionENVIRONMENTAL IMPACTS OF ROAD SALT Mr. Peter Bursztyn discussed the impacts of road salt on the environment and recent articles published concerning the rise of salt percentages in freshwater lakes and streams. Mr. Bursztyn advised the need to eliminate road salt and suggested that a letter be sent to the Province of Ontario regarding the regulations of road salt on bare pavement. K. Thompson, Risk Management Officer provided a presentation concerning the City of Barrie’s Salt Optimization Strategy. TMP-20749 1  Item of DiscussionCITY WIDE AND SOPHIA CREEK MASTER DRAINAGE PLANS Lorran Cooney, Senior Infrastructure Planning Technologist and Tom Reeve, Senior Infrastructure Planning Program Coordinator provided a presentation concerning the development of a City Wide and Sophia Creek Master Drainage Plans. Mr. Cooney and Mr. Reeve discussed slides concerning the following topics: · The objectives of the City Wide Master Drainage Plan; · The key considerations in the development of the Plan; · The Status and Schedule associated with the Sophia Creek and the City Wide Master Drainage Plan; · The Sophia Creek Study Area; · The Sophia Creek minor system deficiencies and major system deficiencies in the north and south; · The Sophia Creek mitigation options; · The Drainage Master Plan Study Area for areas to modeling; · Minor Storm Water Model and deficiencies; · A map illustrating the major overland and underground drainage system; and · The Drainage Master Plan. TMP-20764 1  Item of DiscussionDRAFT PLAN OF SUBDIVISION - WATERSANDS DEVELOPMENT 45 MCKAY ROAD - IMPLEMENTATION OF CITY AND PROVINCIAL POLICIES Al McNair discussed concerns regarding the Application for a Draft Plan of Subdivision for the Watersands Development located at 45 McKay Road. Mr. McNair noted that staff have an opportunity to implement the policies within the City’s Official Plan and the Province of Ontario to encourage energy servicing such as Combined Heat and Power (CHP) starting with the Watersands Development. The Committee invited staff in the Planning and Building Services Department to attend a future meeting of the Environmental Advisory Committee to report back regarding the implementation of the City’s Official Plan and Provincial policies.Received  Action details Not available

TMP-20750 1  Item of DiscussionDOG OFF LEASH RECREATION AREA (DOLRA) PROPOSED BRIDGES - DISCUSSION M. Fischer discussed the concerns of the proposed bridges to the Dog off Leash Recreation Area (DOLRA) located in Sunnidale Park including a waste of money, there are less obtrusive alternatives, no reason for vehicles or emergency vehicles to go on the bridges, and that the Lake Simcoe Conservation Regional Authority (LSCRA) has no problem with the current bridges in place.
