TMP-19922 2  Item of DiscussionYOUTH AMBASSADORS UPDATE The Committee met and discussed the status of the Youth Ambassadors visits as follows: Murayama, Japan C. Hewitt provided an update regarding the youth delegation who visited Murayama, Japan during August, 2016. Ms. Hewitt noted that the youth delegation have provided the presentations to schools in the City of Barrie regarding the youth ambassador program and their experience traveling to Murayama, Japan. Ms. Hewitt advised that schools have been provided with Applications of Interests to provide to students who may be interested in participating in the summer 2018 Youth Ambassador Program. She noted that she has already received a few applications. Zwéibrücken, Germany J. Babcock provided an update regarding the Global Perspectives Program. Mr. Babcock advised that a youth delegation from the City of Barrie will be travelling to Zweibrucken, Germany from June 1, 2017 to June 30, 2017. TMP-19923 2  Item of DiscussionGERMAN TWINNING AND GERMAN CANADIAN CLUB UPDATE R. Warman provided an update regarding the German Twinning. Mr. Warman commented that the Mayor’s Office has forwarded an invitation letter to Zwéibrücken, Germany for a delegation to visit the City of Barrie from May 3, 2017 to May 10, 2017 in celebration of the 20th anniversary of the signing of the Twinning certificate. Mr. Warman highlighted that Mayor Lehman plans to travel to Arras, France in April, 2017 in celebration of the 100th Anniversary of the Battle of Vimy Ridge and he also plans to visit to Zwéibrücken, Germany during this same period of time. Mr. Warman noted that J.M. Pigeon will accompany Mayor Lehman during his visit to Zwéibrücken, Germany The Committee unanimously approved expenditures of funds from the International Relations Committee account 01-06-0935-0000-3095 in the amount not to exceed $8,000.00 for the costs associated with hosting a delegation from Zwéibrücken, Germany from May 3, 2017 to May 10, 2017. TMP-19924 2  Item of DiscussionTHE BOROUGH OF HARROGATE NORTH YORKSHIRE UNITED KINGDOM UPDATE B. Sergeant provided an update regarding the Borough of Harrogate United Kingdom. Mr. Sergeant commented that the King Edward Choir will be traveling to the Borough of Harrogate from June 29th, 2017 to July 10th, 2017 and during their visit will be playing four concerts. Mr. Sergeant noted R. Warman, J.M. Pigeon, J. Laking and himself will accompany the King Edward Choir to the Borough of Harrogate, North Yorkshire, United Kingdom. The Committee unanimously approved the expenditure of funds from the International Relations Committee account 01-06-0935-0000-3095 for an amount not to exceed $8,000.00 for the costs associated with four representatives to escort the King Edward Choir to the Borough of Harrogate, North Yorkshire United Kingdom from June 29, 2017 to July 10, 2017. TMP-19925 2  Item of DiscussionSIR ROBERT BARRIE PROJECT UPDATE R. Warman provided an update regarding the Sir Robert Barrie Project. Mr. Warman commented that the painting of Sir Robert Barrie is on display in the Mayor and Administration Office. Mr. Warman noted that a replica of Sir Robert Barrie’s uniform circa 1812, his medals and naval swords are still trying to be obtained from England to be displayed at the Barrie City Hall. Palson, Georgian College commented that Georgian College has received interest from Lu’an City, China who are searching for a twinning relationship in Canada. Councillor, B. Cudanin is currently visiting Puerto Princesa, Philippines and will follow up with the Mayor of Puerto Princesa during his visit about the proposed twinning relationship. D. Morrison advised that the City of Barrie requires for Puerto Princesa, Philipinnes to establish dates of visit and to provide an invitation for a delegation to visit Puerto Princesa, Philippines in order to sign the paperwork to establish a twin city relationship.   Action details Not available
