Mr. Sachkiw commented that the trip has now been organized for the delegation from the City of Barrie traveling to Murayama, Japan in October, 2017. Mr. Sachkiw suggested the purchase of a print of the Sir Robert Barrie painting as as an official gift for presentation in Murayama, Japan. The Committee agreed.Received  Action details Not available
TMP-21374 2  Item of DiscussionYOUTH AMBASSADORS UPDATE The Committee met and discussed the status of the Youth Ambassadors visits as follows: Murayama, Japan C. Hewitt provided an update regarding Murayama, Japan. Ms. Hewitt commented that a youth delegation from Murayama, Japan recently visited the City of Barrie from July 28, 2017 to August 9, 2017 and had a great visit. Ms. Hewitt noted that she has received a number of applications of interest from youth for future youth ambassador exchanges. Zweibrucken, Germany D. Morrison provided an update regarding the Global Perspectives Program. Mr. Morrison commented that the youth delegation from the City of Barrie who traveled to Zweibrücken, Germany in May/June, 2017 had a wonderful time during their stay. Mr. Morrison advised that a youth delegation from Zweibrücken, Germany arrived on September 14, 2017 and will be visiting the City of Barrie for a month. Mr. Morrison commented that the youth delegation provided a presentation at the City Council meeting on September 18, 2017 Mr. Morrison invited the Committee to attend the Goodbye Party    Action details Not available
TMP-21375 1  Item of DiscussionTHE BOROUGH OF HARROGATE, NORTH YORKSHIRE UNITED KINGDOM UPDATE B. Sergeant provided an update regarding the Borough of Harrogate, North Yorkshire United Kingdom. Mr. Sergeant commented that Jean Maurice Pigeon, Rob Warman, Janice Laking along with himself accompanied the King Edward Choir during their visit to the Borough of Harrogate in June/July, 2017. Mr. Sergeant outlined the delegations itinerary and he noted that the delegation had a fantastic time during their stay. Mr. Sergeant advised that the Borough of Harrogate is interested in participating in the youth exchange with the City of Barrie. Mr. Morrison suggested that a working group be created to discuss the feasibility and logistics of the potential for a youth exchange between the Borough of Harrogate and the City of Barrie. TMP-21376 1  Item of DiscussionGERMAN TWINNING UPDATE AND GERMAN CANADIAN CLUB UPDATE R. Warman provided an update regarding the German Twinning. Mr. Warman commented that a delegation comprised of Janice Laking, Jean Maurice Pigeon, Bill Sergeant along with himself travelled to Zweibrücken Germany July, 2017 to commemorate the 20th Anniversary of the Twinning relationship between the two cities. Mr. Warman highlighted that Zweibrücken, Germany has named a street in their community the City of Barrie to commemorate the relationship between the two cities. Mr. Warman commented that a presentation will be taking place at the City Council meeting regarding the Harrogate and Germany visits on November 6, 2017. The Committee approved the expenditures of funds from the International Relations Committee account 01-06-0935-000-3095 in the amount of $295.00 to be paid to Jean Maurice Pigeon for the purchase of the commemorative tree planted in Zweibrücken, Germany in honour of the 20th Anniversary of the twinning relationship between the two cities.
