Hanrahan, Supervisor of Traffic and Parking Services provided a presentation regarding Smart Portable Variable Message Boards. Mr. Hanrahan discussed slides concerning the following topics: · The pros and cons of the current technology the City is using for message boards; · A description of the Advanced Traveler Information Systems (ATIS); · The benefits associated with using the ATIS En-Route roadside devices; · How the Bluetooth Enabled Variable Message Boards receive and gather data; · A map illustrating the placement of the Bluetooth Enabled Variable Message Boards along Mapleview Drive; · Pictures illustrating potential messages for the proposed Mapleview signs; and · The value added benefits for the message boards including future scalability, systems that are interchangeable with most displays, web-based information, constant collection of data of real time events, leveraging of existing inventory and event or emergency messaging. Rose, Manager of Traffic and Parking Services provided a presentation regarding the framework for a Pedestrian Strategy. Mr. Rose discussed slides concerning the following topics: · The Council’s Strategic Priorities associated with well-planned transportation; · The framework associated with a Pedestrian Strategy; · Pictures illustrating different examples of pedestrian signage and traffic calming measures; · The methodology associated with the development of the strategy; · The factors that will be considered as part of the strategy; and · Four pictures illustrating other municipalities’ pedestrian signage. In closing, Mr. Rose discussed the next steps in the process associated with the short term and long term measures to improve pedestrian safety.
