TMP-22884 1  Presentation - AC/RCPOSSIBILITY OF A REQUIREMENT FOR A DEPOSIT ON PLASTIC BOTTLES S. Brunet, Manager of Environmental Operations and T. Quann-Strasser, Supervisor of Water Diversion provided a presentation regarding the City of Barrie’s waste diversion program and plastic bottles. Ms. Brunet and Ms. Quann-Strasser discussed slides concerning the following topics: · The story of the water bottle; · An overview of waste diversion associated to reduce, reuse, recycle and recover; · The City’s objective to achieve zero waste and zero greenhouse gas emissions from waste; · The City’s view on plastic water bottles associate to the Blue Box Program; · Information on Stewardship Ontario (SO) and how it contributes to the Blue Box Program; · Flowcharts illustrating the current collection schematics associated with grey and blue boxes, garbage, green bin organics and yard waste; · The history from 1970 to 2016 regarding the use and recycling of beverage bottles; · A flowchart illustrating the changing landscape of the legislation for a waste-free Ontario; · The options municipalities can consid   Action details Not available

Bursztyn advised that the collaboration with Living Green Barrie for the development of Environmental Educational Videos is progressing well and that he will report back at a future meeting with an update.   Action details Not available
TMP-22754 1  Presentation - AC/RCBARRIE CENTRAL COLLEGIATE HABITAT PRESERVATION FOR CHIMNEY SWIFTS A. McNair provided information associated with the Chimney Swifts that are nesting in the chimney at the Barrie Central Collegiate site. Mr. McNair provided information regarding Chimney Swifts and stated that they are an endangered species, and as such, the species habitat needs be preserved or an attempt to a managed relocation to a new habitat. He explained that with the discovery of the Chimney Swifts nesting in the Barrie Central Collegiate chimney, the City’s Planning and Building Services Department was notified and modifications were made to preserve the chimney during the demolition of the building. Mr. McNair noted that Nature Barrie has been monitoring the Chimney Swifts at the Barrie Central Collegiate location and has been working with the City and the developer of the site to maintain or relocate the habitat to accommodate the Chimney Swifts.   Action details Not available
