TMP-23968 1  Presentation - AC/RCMULTI-MODAL ACTIVE TRANSPORTATION MASTER PLAN T. Reeve, Senior Infrastructure Planning Program Coordinator of the Engineering Department provided a presentation regarding the Multi-Modal Active Transportation Master Plan. T. TMP-23970 1  Presentation - AC/RCFEDERAL GAS TAX ALLOCATION OF FUNDS TOWARDS ACTIVE TRANSPORTATION DISCUSSION Councillor, K. Alywin explained the importance of the Federal Gas Tax Fund (GTF) to municipalities and that it is a permanent source of funding to support local infrastructure priorities. Councillor Alywin advised of the potential to use a portion of the GTF towards active transportation infrastructure within the City to meet the targets set for active transportation that are currently not being met. The Committee discussed the importance of achieving the City’s targets for active transportation.Received  Action details Not available
TMP-23973 1  Presentation - AC/RCBANNING OF SINGLE-USE PLASTICS WITHIN THE CITY John Thompson, Director of Environmental Services provided an overview on the City’s efforts to reduce, reuse and recycle plastics. He advised that staff in the Environmental Services Department are always reviewing and investigating different ways to reduce of the number of plastics. Mr. Thompson noted that banning the use of single-use plastics is legislated at the Provincial level of government. The Committee provided ideas of reducing single-use plastics such as using paper bags as opposed to plastic, the City to show leadership in reducing plastics, or increasing the costs on the use of single use plastics. The Committee discussed the positive impacts Europe has had in reducing single-use plastics and the recent changes of restaurants using stainless steel or paper straws instead of plastic.Received  Action details Not available
TMP-23971 1  Presentation - AC/RCCITY OF BARRIE DESIGNATION AS A BEE CITY The Committee discussed the City of Barrie being designated as a Bee City and the need to preserve a healthy pollinator habitat with the City. The Committee provided ideas to promote and educate residents on pollinators and suggested areas such as the North Shore Trail to enhance the natural aspects of the environment.Received  Action details Not available
TMP-23972 1  Presentation - AC/RCBACKYARD HENS IN RESIDENTIAL AREAS The Committee discussed the possibility of the City permitting backyard hens within residential areas. They commented on the pros and cons surrounding the ownership of backyard hens in a residential areas, such as education, quality of eggs, compost and garden extras and the negative being costs, noise, messy and short life spans.
