TMP-24610 1  Item of DiscussionCONCERNS ASSOCIATED WITH SENIORS HOUSING Carol Stevenson provided a presentation regarding her concerns associated with seniors housing in the City. Ms. Stevenson discussed the following living experiences that she and her neighbours have experienced with seniors housing: · The background information and purpose of the presentation; · The living experiences of Ms. Stevenson and surrounding neighbours; and · The macro level concerns associated to seniors housing in the City such as affordable housing, unsafe living condition, absentee landlords and safety and security in their homes and the surrounding neighbourhoods. In closing, Ms. Stevenson expressed her concerns for seniors living in the City and commented that seniors need a place to call home that is affordable, and safe mentally, physically and emotionally. TMP-24608 1  Item of DiscussionSENIORS HOUSING Celeste Kitsemetry, Policy Planner provided a presentation concerning an update on proposed developments and seniors housing in the City. Ms. Kitsemetry discussed slides concerning the following topics: · The proposed developments to be targeted for seniors, including assisted living; · The proposed developments with a mix of unit types and access to commercial and transit; · An update on Affordable Housing; and · The Official Plan and Urban Design Guidelines. Members of the Committee asked a number of questions to City staff and received responses. The Committee discussed the impacts of ageism and the need for the government to set better standards for seniors’ and the community such as addressing safety concerns, affordable housing options, and tools in place to plan for seniors now and in the future. The Committee further discussed the City’s planning processes, the need for an aging in place plan, innovative ideas for housing such as granny flats, and the possibility of new developments in unused commercial properties.   Action details Not available
TMP-24609 1  Item of Discussion2019 COMMITTEE GOALS The Committee reviewed housing for seniors in the City and the options for seniors to utilize living such as aging in place and in the comfort of their own homes or in senior assisted living that offers resources for seniors and the costs associated to both styles of living.
