Title: RECOGNITION OF THE BUSINESS DONORS ASSOCIATED WITH THE WATERFRONT FITNESS PROGRAM Walter Fischer, Supervisor of Parks Planning and Development advised that in 2014, City staff were approached by a group of local business owners interested in donating outdoor exercise equipment to be installed on Barrie's waterfront and as a result a Waterfront Fitness Working Group (WFWG) was established with representation from these business donors and City staff in the Engineering and Roads, Park and Fleet Departments. He noted that this Working Group ensured that attributes of the equipment met the requirements and expectations of the City. Mr. Fischer commented that the goal of the fitness circuit design was to create a "training excursion" comprised of various station locations along the waterfront. Mr. Fischer commented that the goal of the fitness circuit design was to create a “training excursion” comprised of various station locations along the waterfront. He advised that the original fundraising goal was $30,000 from approximately six local businesses and that in the end, $79,500 from 15 different businesses and organizations from across the City was received.

 

Mr. Fischer advised that the equipment along the waterfront has been extremely well received and used by many, crafting a legacy for all to enjoy.

 

Mr. Fischer called upon Mayor Lehman to join him at the podium to present certificates of recognition to representatives of the businesses that contributed to the Waterfront Fitness Program, as follows:

Mayor Lehman discussed the initiative to install the fitness equipment along the waterfront and acknowledged the fundraising efforts to make this program a reality.  Mayor Lehman advised that equipment is well used.  He thanked the Business owners/representatives involved for their philanthropy and community spirt.
