Title: CANADIAN INDEX OF WELLBEING AND RESILIENCE COLLABORATIVE PRESENTATION Ms. Lynne Slotek, Associate Director for Knowledge Mobilisation, Canadian Index of Wellbeing (CIW) provided a presentation regarding the Canadian Index of Wellbeing entitled “Measuring What Matters”. Ms. Slotek provided background information regarding the development of the Canadian Index of Wellbeing (CIW) and outlined the vision and mission associated with the index. She indicated that the Canadian Index of Wellbeing is rooted in Canadian Values. Ms. Slotek described the objectives of the CIW and reviewed why it was developed. Ms. Lynne Slotek, Associate Director for Knowledge Mobilisation, Canadian Index of Wellbeing (CIW) provided a presentation regarding the Canadian Index of Wellbeing entitled "Measuring What Matters".  Ms. Slotek provided background information regarding the development of the Canadian Index of Wellbeing (CIW) and outlined the vision and mission associated with the index.  She indicated that the Canadian Index of Wellbeing is rooted in Canadian Values.  Ms. Slotek described the objectives of the CIW and reviewed why it was developed.  She provided the definition of wellbeing adopted by the CIW and introduced the leadership and the international partners associated with the Canadian Index of Wellbeing.  
 
Ms. Slotek reviewed the criteria utilized for the selection of the indicators for the index.  She provided the framework for the CIW and explained the purpose of the CIW composite index.  Ms. Slotek explained the value of the Canadian Index of Wellbeing and the purpose of utilizing the index at the local level of government.  She highlighted a number of trends related to the indicators and commented that she believes the information provides a greater understanding of Canadian society.  Ms. Slotek explained why the she feels the CIW should be utilized at the local level of government and provided examples of groups and municipalities utilizing the index.  She concluded the presentation by describing the benefits communities and organizations have experienced utilizing the CIW across Canada.
 
Members of the Committee asked a question regarding the information provided and received responses from the presenter and City staff.
 
Mr. Gary Machan, Chairperson for the Resilience Collaborative provided an overview of the Resilience Collaborative.  He explained how the Resilience Collaborative was developed in the City of Barrie and the partners involved.  He noted that presentations have been provided to several community stakeholders concerning the initiatives of the Resilience Collaborative.  Mr. Machon commented that he believes there is a partnership opportunity between the Resilience Collaborative and the City of Barrie to support City Council's strategic priority of community vitality using the Canadian Index of Wellbeing.
