Title: RECOGNITION OF DEPUTY FIRE CHIEF RICK MONKMAN ON HIS RETIREMENT AND YEARS OF SERVICE. Mayor J. Lehman announced that on December 31, 2014 after nearly 41 Years in the Fire Service, Deputy Chief Rick Monkman will be hanging up his helmet and turnout gear for the first time as he is set to retire. Mayor Lehman provided highlights of Rick's career prior to joining Barrie Fire and Emergency Service and his accomplishments during his career at the City. Mayor Lehman advised that in his retirement, Rick will be spending time with his family, fishing at the cottage and travelling the world. Mayor Lehman acknowledged Rick's calm hand as an instant commander and his contributions to Barrie Fire, noting that people are better for knowing Rick. Mayor J. Lehman announced that on December 31, 2014 after nearly 41 Years in the Fire Service, Deputy Chief Rick Monkman will be hanging up his helmet and turnout gear for the first time as he is set to retire.
 
Mayor Lehman provided highlights of Rick's career prior to joining Barrie Fire and Emergency Service and his accomplishments during his career at the City.        Mayor Lehman advised that in his retirement, Rick will be spending time with his family, fishing at the cottage and travelling the world.

Deputy Chief Rick Monkman thanked Mayor Lehman for his kind words.  He discussed the growth of the fire service in Barrie during his career and the support from Council to make the City of Barrie a leading edge municipality.  He noted he is leaving with mixed emotions and thinks of Barrie residents as his customers.  He thanked Fire Chief John Lynn for allowing him to serve in his current capacity.  He stated that he enjoyed working under Chief Lynn's leadership and commented on how he will miss working with the staff at the Fire Service.  He thanked his family, especially his wife Nancy for their support.  In closing, Rick stated he enjoyed his career in the fire service and serving the community.
 
Mayor Lehman wished Nancy Monkman good luck and thanked the Monkman family for sharing Rick with the City.
