PRESENTATION CONCERNING FIREBIRD COMMUNITY CYCLE
Nicholas Flinn declared a potential pecuniary interest on the foregoing matter as he is a volunteer member of the Firebird Community Cycle. He did not participate or vote on the matter. He remained in the Sir Robert Barrie Room.
Geri Poisson provided a presentation concerning the Firebird Community Cycle.
Mr. Poisson discussed slides concerning the following topics:
• The mission statement of Firebird Community Cycle;
• The goals of Firebird Community Cycle as follows:
o Active Transportation;
o Education;
o Provide skills and training;
o Sustainability; and
o Community.
• The achievements of the organization;
• An illustration depicting the current location of the organization;
• A summary of the current operational challenges;
• The current activities of the organization;
• An overview of the Barrie Landfill Bike Diversion program;
• The proposal and request of the Firebird Community Cycle;
• The Community Bike Shops from the following municipalities:
o City of Peterborough;
o City of Brampton;
o City of London; and
o City of Guelph.
• A summary of the organization.
Members of Committee asked a number of questions of Mr. Poisson and Brett Gratrix, Senior Manager of Transportation and received responses.
Mr. Gratrix suggested that Firebird Community Cycle could potentially look for support from private property owners for a viable location for their organization.
The Committee discussed the City of Barrie formalizing the Landfill Bike Diversion Pilot Program with Firebird Community Cycle, assisting the organization to seek grant funding opportunities and/or partnerships for a permanent location and the potential of creating a grant fund to support community-based cycling groups to advance active transportation.
