Title: Don MacNeil of the Council of Canadians (Barrie) Simcoe Region Chapter provided a deputation in opposition to motion 12-G-152 concerning Bottled Beverages at Special Events. He commented that he felt the debate at the General Committee concerning the motion focused too much on the word “ban” and not the intent of the matter. Mr. MacNeil stated that he believes the motion should be an addendum to the original item for discussion. He provided a number of examples where he feels bans have worked in society, including banning smoking in public areas. Mr. MacNeil expressed concern regarding the impact bottled water has on landfills and the environment. He noted that the Federation of Canadian Municipalities has adopted a resolution to encourage municipalities to phase out the sale of bottled water.
