CHEQUE PRESENTATION BY REPRESENTATIVE OF THE BARRIE TRIATHLON COMMITTEE TO THE CITY OF BARRIE REGARDING THE CITY OF BARRIE'S ACCESSIBLE INCLUSIVE RECREATION (AIR) PROGRAM
Mayor, J. Lehman provided background information related to the City of Barrie's Accessible Inclusive Recreation Program. He noted that this program provides for an inclusive accessible recreation environment for those with disabilities. Mayor Lehman noted that this Program is subsidized by community donations, the largest being the Barrie Triathlon.
Mr. Gerrie Maitland of the Barrie Triathlon Committee announced that funds raised through the Barrie Triathlon are being donated to the City of Barrie's Accessible Inclusive Recreation (AIR Program). He noted that this event is held at the City of Barrie waterfront each summer. Mr. Maitland explained that the aim of the Triathlon Committee is to include participants of all ages and ability.
Mr. Maitland indicated that the Committee feels that since the City of Barrie is the Triathlon's biggest supporter, the funds raised should be donated back to the City. He presented a cheque in the amount of $3,000 towards the AIR Program.
In closing, Mayor Lehman thanked the Triathlon Committee and participants for supporting the AIR Program.
