Title: PRESENTATION BY CLEAN UP BARRIE CONCERNING CLEAN UP BARRIE AND THE POSSIBLE EXPANSION OF ITS OUTREACH Jen Slykhuis provided a presentation concerning Clean Up Barrie and expansion of their outreach to the community. Jen Slykhuis provided a presentation concerning Clean Up Barrie and expansion of their outreach to the community.  Ms. Slykhuis described her role with Clean Up Barrie, and her interest in cleaning up litter, keeping nature clean and environment enjoyable and safe especially for kids.

 

Ms. Slykhuis discussed slides concerning the following topics:

 

                     The history of Clean Up Barrie;

                     

                     The incorporation by the organization as “not for profit”;

 

                     Images of various clean up locations throughout the municipality including Northshore Trail, Lampman Park, Irwin Park, Browning Trail, Penetanguishene Road and Heritage Park;

 

                     The 2023 achievements and those since 2020 including amount of garbage cleaned up, locations, volunteer hours and cost savings to the City;

 

                     An overview of the Clean UP Crew - employment program;

 

                     A map depicting the litter hot spots in the municipality;

 

                     An overview of the types of garbage picked up;

 

                     The initiatives of the organization to tackle litter in connection with Council’s 2022 to 2026 strategic priorities;

 

                     The partners and supporters of Clean Up Barrie;

 

                     The Clean UP Crew - Employment Program;

 

                     An overview of the types of garbage picked up; and

 

                     The recommendations from Clean Up Barrie to support clean up in the municipality.

 

Ms. Slykhuis acknowledged Councillor, A. Courser, Councillor, A.M Kungl and Councillor B. Hamilton for organizing clean up events in each of their respective wards. She also acknowledged City staff, volunteers and citizens for supporting these clean up events in the municipality.

 

Members of Council asked a number of questions of Ms. Slykhuis and City staff and received responses.
