PRESENTATION CONCERNING THE CIRCULAR ECONOMY: A NEW APPROACH TO WASTE MANAGEMENT
Sandra Brunet, Manager of Business Performance and Environmental Sustainability Committee provided a presentation concerning the Circular Economy: A New Approach to Waste Management that would support a more resilient and sustainable Barrie.
Ms. Brunet discussed slides concerning the following topic:
• The alignment of the changed approach to waste management with Council’s Strategic Priorities;
• The rationale associated with implementing a new approach to waste management;
• A description and definition of what a circular economy is;
• The Circular Economy (CE) vision;
• A chart illustrating the pillars of Barrie’s approach to Waste Management;
• The alignment of this approach with Federal and Provincial legislations, policies and strategies;
• The key challenges and opportunities related to the circular economy concept; and
• The next steps in implementing the circular economy framework.
Members of Committee asked a number of questions of City staff and received responses.
