PRESENTATION TO THE RECIPIENT OF THE ROBERT KERR ACCESSIBILITY AWARD
ROBERT KERR ACCESSIBILITY AWARD
On behalf of MP Patrick Brown Shawn Bubel presented Albert Stein with the Robert Kerr Accessibility Award. He noted that the award recognizes an individual, business or organization that fosters an environment of equal participation by recognizing outstanding accomplishments which result in equal opportunities for persons with disabilities in Barrie.
Mr. Bubel presented a video of MP Brown describing Mr. Stein's achievements and contributions to increasing awareness of accessibility matters in the community. He described him as someone who represents the best elements of society. Mr. Bubel read aloud a letter to Mr. Stein from Stephen Harper, Prime Minister of Canada recognizing his positive impact related to social change.
John Tom of MEDIchair, sponsors of the Robert Kerr Accessibility Award described a number of key events throughout Mr. Stein's life and listed the accessibility related Committees that Mr. Stein has been involved with over the years. He presented Mr. Stein with a commemorative plaque and $500 cheque.
In accepting the award, Mr. Stein noted that he feels honoured having worked with Robert Kerr. He commented that he feels the award helps to keep Robert Kerr's legacy alive. Mr. Stein commented that he prefers to work in the background to promote information and public awareness related to accessibility matters. He thanked the nominating committee for selecting him for the award.
Mayor Lehman congratulated Mr. Stein on behalf of City Council for his service to the City and stated that he was a very deserving recipient of the award.
