WELCOME TO THE GERMAN STUDENT DELEGATION
Mr. Dave Morrison, Chair of the International Relations Committee provided a brief history of the Youth Ambassadors/Global Perspectives Student Exchange program in Barrie. He discussed past and planned future visits as part of the student exchanges.
Ms. Tina Laurer, one of the delegation leaders visiting from Zweibrücken, Germany spoke on behalf of the delegation regarding the success and the value of the exchange program. She thanked City Council for their support of the program and presented a gift to Mayor Lehman on behalf of the Zweibrücken, Germany.
Mr. Morrison recognized the efforts of a past City employee related to her participation in the Student Exchange Program, by opening her home to the delegations that visit the City of Barrie. He acknowledged her service to the City of Barrie in her role as Information Clerk before she retired earlier in the year. Mr. Morrison invited Ms. Debbie Ing up to the podium and presented her with a gift in appreciation of her support of the Student Exchange Program.
Mayor Lehman commented that Debbie is missed as an ambassador at the City of Barrie and that she provided a positive face for the City.
Mayor Lehman thanked Ms. Lauer for the lovely speech, noting that it is nice to hear what people think of the City. Mayor Lehman thanked the members of the International Relations Committee, the students and their families for their support and participation in the program.
