Title: SENIORS EVENTS/INFORMATION/UPDATES Lucia Ricardo provided an update on the CNIB relating to an open house in June at its new location at 90 Collier Street, posting for a new Technology Lead, still not in-person programs, and community consultations for seniors through continued virtual programming or a survey. Molly Malcolm discussed the effects COVID-19 has had on the residents of Victoria Village. Heather Stone indicated that the Red Cross, Friendly Phone Calls, and Meals on Wheels remain business as usual. Ms. Stone mentioned that transportation is limited to essential trips only, as well as Friendly Visiting is still on hold. Heather Kenehan provided that both the 55 Plus Centres at Allendale Recreation Centre and Parkview Centre are open and welcoming both new and returning members. Molly Malcolm discussed the effects COVID-19 has had on the residents of Victoria Village.

Gwen Kavanagh discussed the Seniors Community Fund, the challenges in reaching recipients, and the possibility of an article in the Barrie Advance.  Ms. Kavanagh mentioned a Housing Panel with the NDP on the challenges with housing, such as co-housing in lieu of long-term care homes.

 

Donna Dellio suggested the Committee review a survey done by the City of Orillia and come up with questions they would like to see on a survey done by the Committee for the June Town Hall.

 

Councillor Kungl discussed collaborations with other Committees in the City for events and activities, such as Bike the Night with the Active Transportation and Sustainability Committee and the Year of the Garden with the Communities in Bloom Committee, to promote and educate the community about the Committee and to contribute to other City programs of interest.  She also discussed an invitation to Melissa May, Ontario Health to speak to the Committee at a future meeting.
