Title: 2024 COMMUNITIES IN BLOOM PROGRAM UPDATE Councillor, AM. Kungl and Mona Boyd, Horticulture Foreperson provided a historical background of the Communities in Bloom program including the Committee members role to support participating in the program. Councillor Kungl and Ms. Boyd provided an overview of the 2024 Communities in Bloom program including the judges visit. Councillor Kungl and Mona Boyd announced that the City of Barrie was recognized at the 30th anniversary of the Communities in Bloom National and International Awards Ceremonies held in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island in October 2024. Councillor, AM. Kungl and Mona Boyd, Horticulture Foreperson provided a historical background of the Communities in Bloom program including the Committee members role to support participating in the program. Councillor Kungl and Ms. Boyd provided an overview of the 2024 Communities in Bloom program including the judges visit.

 

Mona Boyd distributed copies of the 2024 Communities in Bloom evaluation form to the Committee members.

 

Councillor Kungl and Mona Boyd announced that the City of Barrie was recognized at the 30th anniversary of the Communities in Bloom National and International Awards Ceremonies held in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island in October 2024.  Councillor Kungl announced that the City of Barrie won the International Challenge Large category, earning a 5 Blooms Gold and special mention for the Waterfront Strategic Plan, and received an outstanding achievement award for the Canadian Nursery Landscape Association Green Cities Award for the Marina Sea Bin Project.

 

Councillor Kungl discussed plans to host a Communities in Bloom staff recognition event on November 20, 2024, and that further information will be provided to the Committee once plans have been finalized. Tyneisha Thomas volunteered to prepare a poem about the Communities in Bloom program to be read at the recognition event.
