Andrew Bacque provided a deputation to City Council in opposition to motion 12-G-151 concerning Taxi Tariffs and Taxi Industry Consultation. He noted that Deluxe Taxi supports the recommendation to provide a discount for seniors and the reduction of taxi fares in general and would support s change that would address transaction fees. He commented that he appreciated the proactive approach taken by City Council concerning the taxi industry. Mr. Bacque indicated that he believes further enforcement is required to regulate the industry. Mr. Bacque suggested that the City of Barrie investigate other municipalities' policies and procedures to address taxi safety, fairness for the industry and other measures being taken to reduce the cost to the taxpayers. He asked that a clause be included in the motion to re-iterate Council's commitment to develop and enforce a comprehensive fair regulatory regime for the taxi's industry with a time deadline. He concluded by requesting that City Council improve enforcement for the taxi industry and provide a mechanism for the taxi industry to communicate formally/informally with City Council.
