TO SHORTEN THE TIMELINES COUNCIL CAN OVERRIDE A VETO OF AN AMENDMENT TO THE BUDGET

Whereas Section 284.16 (4) of the Municipal Act, provides that the head of council, may in accordance with regulation 530/22, veto an amendment to the budget passed by Council resolution; and
Whereas Section 284.16 (5) of the Municipal Act Council may in accordance with regulation 530/22, override the head of council’s veto if two-thirds of the members of council vote to override the veto within 15 days of the mayor’s veto; and
Whereas Section 284.16 (5) and regulation 530/22 of the Municipal Act, council may in a year pass a resolution to shorten the 15 day override period; and
Therefore, Be It Resolved, that the Council of The Corporation of the City of Barrie shorten the time period to override any veto of the Mayor from 15 days to 5 days for City of Barrie Operating and Capital Budgets and the Service Partner Budgets.
