Roger Gray provided a deputation concerning motion 22-G-164 in response to motion 21-G-248, exemption request to permit an indoor gun range.

Mr. Gray explained that a new location has been located for the indoor gun range at 125 Ferndale Drive (the former location of the ball hockey facility). He advised that the building is zoned commercial, meets the requirements of the intended use and is surrounded by industrial properties. Mr. Gray commented that indoor gun ranges in other municipalities are extremely busy.

Mr. Gray clarified that noise from the indoor gun range would be less than noise from a vehicle. He explained that Action Target would not be the operators of the indoor gun range and that there would be certified operators in place to manage the business

Mr. Gray advised that the Chief Firearms Officer (CFO) regulates the construction and operation of a gun range and any complaints regarding such a facility, would be considered their responsibility.

Mr. Gray felt that if there was an indoor gun range located in Barrie that many people would travel to the municipality and would support the local businesses. He asked if it was possible to obtain a temporary permitted letter for the indoor gun range.
