Title: RECOGNITION OF THE 2022 SALVATION ARMY CHRISTMAS KETTLE CAMPAIGN Major Bruce Shirran of the Salvation Army, Barrie Bayside Mission thanked members of City Council for the opportunity to address Council concerning the Christmas Kettle Campaign and the services provided by the Salvation Army. Major Shirran acknowledged that in June 2022 the Salvation Army celebrated 132 years of service providing support to the community and the most vulnerable. Major Shirran thanked the residents of the City for their generosity and his appreciation to those who volunteer at the various programs offered by the Salvation Army. He provided details of the Kettle Campaign and the projected fundraising goal of $650,000. Major Shirran noted that the 2021 Kettle Campaign fundraising goal was impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic wherein $438,000 had been fundraised. Major Bruce Shirran of the Salvation Army, Barrie Bayside Mission thanked members of City Council for the opportunity to address Council concerning the Christmas Kettle Campaign and the services provided by the Salvation Army. 

 

Major Shirran acknowledged that in June 2022 the Salvation Army celebrated 132 years of service providing support to the community and the most vulnerable.

 

Major Shirran thanked the residents of the City for their generosity and his appreciation to those who volunteer at the various programs offered by the Salvation Army. He provided details of the Kettle Campaign and the projected fundraising goal of $650,000.  Major Shirran noted that the 2021 Kettle Campaign fundraising goal was impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic wherein $438,000 had been fundraised.

 

Major Shirran spoke about the personal challenges experienced by those that use the Salvation Army Services and the assistance the Salvation Army provides to families in need that included the Redwood Park Family Transition Project and the Redwood Park Communities Short-Term Family Supportive Housing Centre to be completed in summer 2023.

 

In closing, Major Shirran stated that the mission of the Salvation Army is to support the most vulnerable in the community, thanked the City of Barrie for their continued support and that the Salvation Army Barrie Bayside Mission is currently looking for volunteers for the Christmas Kettle Campaign. 

 

Members of Council asked a number of questions to Major Shirran and received responses.
