OPEN DELEGATION REGARDING ILLEGAL RENTALS OF RESIDENTIAL PROPERTIES AND THE ASSOCIATED COSTS TO THE CITY FOR ITEMS INCLUDING, SNOW REMOVAL, ENFORCEMENT, PARKING AND ROAD MAINTENANCE
Mr. Duscan Pajevic provided an Open Delegation regarding illegal rentals of residential properties and the associated costs to the City for items including, snow removal, enforcement, parking and road maintenance.
Mr. Pajevic discussed the followings concerns and comments:
• The excessive and illegal parking throughout city streets and private properties;
• That many residential streets are too narrow to accommodate parking on both sides which could potentially cause access problems for emergency vehicles;
• That large vehicles parked near driveways, obstruct visibility and make it difficult to exit driveways safely thus compromising roadside safety and impeding road maintenance especially in the winter, fall and spring when snow and debris removal maintenance programs are undertaken;
• The businesses that are being operated in residential homes and commercial vehicles that are parked in residential areas;
• The regulations associated with illegal rooming houses and rental housing; and
• That residential properties that are being unmaintained.
In closing, Mr. Pajevic commented that he has many concerns associated with uncontrolled rental housing and he suggested the Province along with municipalities undertake a constructive study to tackle and address the issue of illegal rentals.
Members of the Committee asked questions to the presenter and to City staff and received responses.
