PRESENTATION - DRAFT HERITAGE STRATEGY

 

K. Brislin, Senior Policy Planner of the Planning and Building Services Department provided a presentation regarding the Draft Heritage Strategy for the City of Barrie.

 

Ms. Brislin discussed slides concerning the following topics:

 

                     A review of the Heritage Strategy Background Report that includes an overview of Barrie’s history;

                     The importance and role of heritage in forming Barrie’s cultural identity;

                     A draft of a Heritage Vision Statement;

                     An overview of the four pillars to establish a Heritage Strategy:

o                     To consolidate and compile heritage information in a publically accessible format;

o                     To protect and enhance heritage resources in accordance with the Heritage Act and Planning Act;

o                     To manage heritage resources and develop policies for heritage conservation; and

In closing, K. Brislin detailed the next steps in the development of a Heritage Strategy for the City of Barrie and reviewed the Action Items Matrix.

 

Members of the Committee asked a number of questions related to the information presented and received responses from staff.
