OPEN DELEGATION - TOLLENDAL WOODS SIDEWALK
Bryan Nykoliation, a representative of the Tollendal Woods Residents provided an Open Delegation on behalf of the Tollendal Woods residents regarding the Tollendal Sidewalk Project.
Mr. Nykoliation explained that he is the community's voice as a resident of the Tollendal Woods Community. He noted that the residents of the neighbourhood are concerned that the character of the neighbourhood may change with the installation of sidewalks.
Mr. Nykoliation provided a number of slides concerning the following:
* The results of an electronic survey circulated to Tollendal Woods residents in which 77% said no to the installation of sidewalks;
* The comments received regarding the installation of sidewalks;
* The impact that sidewalks would have on Tollendal's character;
* The definition of Character Area Status;
* Examples of Character Area Neighbourhoods;
* The unique attributes of the Tollendal area;
* The current design of Tollendal's Street pattern;
* The reasons why sidewalks should not be mandated in Tollendal; and
* The desired process if sidewalks are mandated in Tollendal.
In conclusion, Mr. Nykoliation commented that if sidewalks are mandated, the Tollendal Woods Residents would like to meet with the City to better understand the scope of the project and discuss the options available to mitigate the impact of sidewalks being installed in the neighbourhood.
Mr. Leonard Borgdorff, Senior Project Engineering provided an aerial photograph illustrating the location of the proposed sidewalk and curb location.
Six individuals (D. Taylor, A. Famiglietti, D. Hamilton, M. Schroder, R. Taylor. and D. Wall-Armstrong) addressed the Committee concerning the installation of sidewalks in Tollendal Woods and provided comments and concerns related to the following:
* The proposed increase to the width of the streets;
* The impact of sidewalks on the character of the neighbourhood;
