NORTH SHORE TRAIL UPDATE
Walter Fischer, Supervisor of Parks Planning and Development for the City of Barrie provided a presentation regarding the North Shore Trail Update. Mr. Fischer described the North Shore Trail Master Plan and noted that it was approved by City Council in 2002. He provided a status update for each of the recommendations contained within the North Shore Master Plan.
Members of the community were provided the opportunity to address the Committee regarding their concerns regarding the North Shore trail.
Sarah Uffleman commented that she feels the "Adopt-a-trail Program" has never been fully implemented. She suggested that the City form an Advisory Committee with residents, naturalist clubs and other stakeholders to provide a method to communicate with the various stakeholders. She stated that she feels that a structured mechanism is required for community involvement.
Robert Lehman commented that he believes the residents living along the trail should be consulted regarding the maintenance of the trail. He indicated that he feels residents want to be included in the planning process for the North Shore Trail as he believes the decisions related to the trail impact the residents directly.
Al McNair encouraged the Committee to support the formation of a working group concerning the North Shore Trail. He stated that he feels a formal structure may help to achieve a balance between the various North Shore Trail stakeholders.
Members of the Committee asked several questions regarding North Shore Trail matters and received responses from City staff and the residents in attendance at the meeting.
Members of the community provided comments concerning the North Shore regarding the following matters:
· 2012 maintenance of the trail
· Flower beds along the trail
· Adopt-a-Trail Committee
· Garbage can installation
· Additional signage
