UPDATES FROM WORKING GROUPS:
a) Environment and Nature
The group did not provide any updates. Councillor AM. Kungl provided comments on the Bird Friendly City, ecological offsetting and tree planting, and status of the Little Lake Master Plan. Councillor AM. Kungl advised that she would invite staff from Development Services Department to a future meeting to provide an update on ecological offsetting and tree planting, and the Little Lake Master Plan.
b) Circular Economy
The group provided an update concerning the repair café’s downtown, and the pilot project to expand the program into retirement communities and other library locations. The team lead advised that World Environment Day takes place on June 5, 2025.
The group also provided an update on a company that offers a reusable cup program available to independent cafes. The group advised that they were going to connect with the BIA and Georgian College about the reusable cup program. A sample of the reusable cups were displayed.
c) Building, Energy, and Housing
No updates were provided. Councillor S. Morales and Danielle Waters will join the working group.
d) Food Productions and Security
Councillor, AM. Kungl advised that the City’s new greenhouse is schedule to open soon, and she is arranging a tour of the facility for the Committee. Staff from the Operations Department will be invited to a future meeting to provide a presentation on the design and features of the new greenhouse.
e) Active and Non-Active Transportation
The group commented on an upcoming Smart Density Solution Lab Workshop, the city working through the new Zoning By-law process, attending a Transportation Master Plan meeting, and the benefits of the automated speed camera program.
