Councillor McCann advised that Liam Surka was the winner of this year's contest. Councillor McCann remarked that after reading the submissions he felt good about the future of Barrie residents. Liam read his essay as follows:

"Barrie is an amazing city! From sports teams to beaches and the Wibit, to ski hills and trails, here are some of my favourite things about the city I call home.

I love Barrie because of the bike trails. When my friends and I are bored over the spring and the summer months, we can just get on our bikes and go on the trails to what feels like our own little private beach, Wilkins' Beach.

During the summer you can come to Kempenfest and see lots of handmade things people have to sell or you can sell something.

Along the lake on Canada Day you can participate in the Canada Day run! You can run a 1 km, a 5 km or a 10 km race.
