Title: SOURCE WATER PROTECTION AND PLANNING FOR THE CITY OF BARRIE Stew Patterson, Manager of Infrastructure Planning provided a presentation regarding Source Water Protection and Planning for the City of Barrie - Risk Management Official Staff Report. Mr. Patterson provided a brief overview of the Clean Water Act and the purpose of source water protection planning. He identified the basic framework associated with the Clean Water Act. He provided a map of the Wellhead Protection Areas and Intake Protection Zones within the City of Barrie highlighting areas which may be affected by the Significant Threat Policy associated with the Clean Water Act. Mr. Patterson explained the purpose and responsibilities of a Risk Management Official and Risk Management Inspector appointed under the Clean Water Act. Stew Patterson, Manager of Infrastructure Planning provided a presentation regarding Source Water Protection and Planning for the City of Barrie - Risk Management Official Staff Report.  Mr. Patterson provided a brief overview of the Clean Water Act and the purpose of source water protection planning.  He identified the basic framework associated with the Clean Water Act.  He provided a map of the Wellhead Protection Areas and Intake Protection Zones within the City of Barrie highlighting areas which may be affected by the Significant Threat Policy associated with the Clean Water Act.  Mr. Patterson explained the purpose and responsibilities of a Risk Management Official and Risk Management Inspector appointed under the Clean Water Act.  He reviewed the resources which may be required to implement source water protection proposed planning.  Mr. Patterson reviewed the proposed fees related to recovering the City's costs.  He explained the rationale concerning a recommendation to recruit one full time dedicated Risk Management Official that will be contained within the Source Water Protection Staff Report.  Mr. Patterson described the experiences of other municipalities when verifying threats identified in the source water protection plan.  In closing, he noted the status of other municipalities in the process of implementing their source water protection plan.
 
Members of City Council asked a number of questions of staff relating to the information provided and received responses.
