PRESENTATION FROM A REPRESENTATIVE(S) OF THE HISTORIC NEIGHOURHOOD STRATEGY COMMITTEE CONCERNING THE HISTORIC NEIGHBOURHOOD STRATEGY 2017 YEAR END REPORT
Mr. Bill Scott of the Historic Neighbourhood Strategy Committee provided a presentation concerning the Historic Neighbourhoods Strategy 2017 Progress Report.
Mr. Scott discussed slides concerning the following topics:
• A map illustrating the geographic area that the Historical Neighbourhood Strategy encompasses;
• The background, history and role of the Historic Neighbourhood Strategy Committee;
• The major goals of the Committee, including the development of planning framework to protect neighbourhoods and enhance the identity of historic neighbourhoods by street signs and murals;
• Information associated to a pilot project to protect the historic Allandale neighbourhood;
• Pictures illustrating examples of unique signage;
• A map identifying the locations of Historic Neighbourhood Street Signs;
• Background information concerning the partnership with the Public Art Committee and Georgian College in association to the Mural Project completed in 2016;
• The major goal of controlling graffiti through placement of murals and the possibility of two additional sites;
• Pictures illustrating the completed mural; and
• The future plans for the Historic Neighbourhood Strategy Committee including a cultural heritage assessment, formal inclusion of Kempenfelt Village and the East End and more public art.
Members of Council asked questions of the presenter and received responses.
