PRESENTATION BY THE BARRIE PUBLIC LIBRARY CONCERNING THE HOLLY COMMUNITY LIBRARY

 

Lauren Jessop, Chief Executive Officer of the Barrie Public Library and Austin Mitchell, Chair of the Barrie Public Library Board provided a presentation concerning an opportunity to expand library services into the Holly neighbourhood in the south-end of Barrie.

 

Ms. Jessop and Mr. Mitchell discussed slides concerning the following topics:

 

                     The postponement of the original request for a community library due the COVID-19 pandemic;

                     The growing need for library services in the south-end of Barrie;

                     The rationale associated with the Holly Community Library being a smart investment; 

                     The opportunities, services and benefits expanding library services to the Holly neighbourhood;

                     The data, ideas and feedback received during the community consultation process;

                     The need for community connection due to the pandemic and the continuing evolving library services;

                     The new developments to the Holly community and surrounding area;

                     An overview of the Holly Community Library proposal; and

                     The anticipated Capital and Operating Budget.

 

In conclusion, Mr. Mitchell asked for City Council’s support to provide expanded library services to the neighbourhood as he feels it is an opportunity for a great space in a busy walkable area in the heart of the Holly neighbourhood. 

 

Members of Council asked a number of questions to the presenters and City staff and received responses.
