OPEN DELEGATION BY ROGER GRAY REGARDING A REQUEST FOR AN EXEMPTION FROM REGULATORY BY-LAW 2010-036 TO PERMIT AN INDOOR STATE OF THE ART SHOOTING RANGE LOCATED AT 342 KING STREET

 

Roger Gray provided an Open Delegation concerning a request for an exemption from Regulatory By-law 2010-036 to permit an indoor state of the art shooting range at 342 King Street.

 

Mr. Gray discussed that Gun Linx’s is looking to obtain an exemption from the Regulatory By-law 2010-036 for light industrial zoning to allow for a permitted use for a state of the art shooting facility at 342 King Street

 

Mr. Gray provided a summary of Gun Linx’s Business Plan and he expressed that plans are to partner with local organizations such as law enforcement, military and security, to create a state of the art sport shooting facility and to provide educational programming such as a three tiered shooting range system. 

 

Mr. Gray described that the vision for Gun Linx’s is to be the preferred educational and shooting range facility for all those living in and around Simcoe County and the Southern Ontario Regions and that the intention is to gain national recognition.  He advised that the proposed Barrie location at 342 King Street is not only strategic but is also enabling and conducive for all their customers, employees and would be accessible.  Mr. Gray provided an overview of the local gun clubs in the area.

 

Mr. Gray provided a summary of the Canadian Shooting Sport Association and he described the benefits and statistics associated with shooting sports. 

 

Members of the Committee asked several questions to Mr. Gray and City staff and received responses.
