SIMCOE COUNTY SOCIAL SERVICES - AGE-FRIENDLY
Tracy Hill, Age-Friendly Project Team Lead Recreationist, Seniors Services, County of Simcoe, Georgian Village provided a presentation concerning the County of Simcoe as an age-friendly community.
Ms. Hill discussed slides concerning the following topics:
• An introduction of the Age-Friendly Simcoe County Team;
• The World Health Organization (WHO) age-friendly initiative;
• The WHO identified eight dimensions for an age-friendly environment;
• The County of Simcoe 2018-2023 Age-Friendly Planning Framework regarding a Simcoe County Positive Aging Strategy for Older Adults;
• The background and timelines completed in developing an age-friendly community;
• The County of Simcoe programs and services supporting seniors during COVID-19 including Simcoe’s age-friendly website and 211 Ontario;
• The Age-Friendly Seniors Housing Grant Program;
• The Age-Friendly Business Guide and Recognition Program;
• The changes in technology for seniors to use during the pandemic;
• The key learning and pressures faced in supporting seniors during COVID-19; and
• A summary of the opportunities to enhance age-friendly in Simcoe County including the redevelopment of Simcoe Manor; Simcoe Village site plan and age-friendly business took kits.
Members of the Committee asked a number of questions of Ms. Hill and received responses.
