OPEN DELEGATION FROM DARICK BATTAGLIA REGARDING THE UNSAFE ROAD CONDITIONS ON JEAN STREET

Darick Battaglia provided and Open Delegation concerning the road conditions on Jean Street.

Mr. Battaglia advised that Jean Street and a portion of approximately 200 metres of Tyndale Road currently does not have municipal servicing.  He discussed his observations of the unsafe road conditions of Jean Street. Mr. Battaglia described his concerns associated with narrow roadways, uneven and crumbling pavement, the open ditches that overflow when there is a heavy rainfall. He discussed how his neighbours are fixing old failing septic systems in the area.  He commented that he felt that there is not appropriate storm water management for Jean Street given the close proximity to Lake Simcoe.

Mr. Battaglia advised that when Jean Street was originally annexed from the Town of Innisfil that it was a cottage road, but now the street is considered as part of Barrie’s prominent transitional neighbourhoods.

Mr. Battaglia discussed photographs and a video in support of his concerns related to the unsafe road conditions along Jean Street and Tyndale Road.

Mr. Battaglia advised that the intersections of Tyndale Road, Dock Road and Coxmill Road have already received full municipal servicing and that it appears that the section of Jean Street and a portion of Tyndale Road was by-passed. He advised that he feels that he pays his fair share of property taxes, but is concerned that plans for the reconstruction of Jean Street keep getting delayed.

Members of Committee asked several questions associated to the Open Delegation and received responses from Mr. Battaglia, Committee members and City Staff.
