Title: UPDATES FROM COMMITTEE PUBLIC ART ALLANDALE GO STATION AND TRANSIT HUB Councillor, J. UPDATES FROM COMMITTEE

 

PUBLIC ART ALLANDALE GO STATION AND TRANSIT HUB

 

Councillor, J. Harris provided an update regarding the public art project listed on the Committee’s work plan for the Allandale GO Station and Transit Hub. 

 

Councillor Harris explained that he had a meeting with City staff and stakeholders regarding heritage art at the Allandale GO Station and Transit Hub and he received positive feedback. He described that the next steps would be to develop a proposal outlining the scope and concept of the public art project including the key partners which would then be provided to City staff.

 

The Committee provided feedback to Councillor J. Harris and received responses.

 

C. Colebatch suggested that there storyboards, particularly located in the Allandale area that describe some of Barrie’s rail history.

 

 

 

HISTORIC ART ON UTILITY BOXES AND PLANTING TREES IN MILITARY HERITAGE PARK

 

C. Froese, Vice-Chair provided a presentation concerning two projects listed on the Committee’s work plan regarding the historic art on utility boxes and planting trees in the Military Heritage Park.

 

Mr. Froese discussed slides concerning the following topics:

 

                     A historical background of the Graffiti Abatement project;

                     Photographs depicting historic art on utility boxes in Downtown Barrie;

                     A list of potential locations in Barrie for historical wraps on utility boxes;

                     Photographs depicting sample utility boxes for possible historic wraps;

                     A historical background of the trees planted in Honour of Veterans at Military Heritage Park;

                     An area map depicting the marching forest of the Military Heritage Park and Southshore Naturalization; and

                     The next steps and potential costs associated with trees.

 

In closing. Mr. Froese described that the intent is to have 327 trees planted in the Military Heritage Park which is intended to honour soldiers from Barrie who died in the wars. He suggested that a memorial plaque would be beneficial to explain the marching forest concept and rationale for the trees as an addition to the project. Mr. Froese commented that he will provide an update at a future meeting regarding the historic art on utility boxes and trees in the Military Heritage Park.

 

The members of Committee asked a number of questions of Mr. Froese and received responses. 

 

CORRESPONDENCE BARRIE AND DISTRICT ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS (BDAR) REGARDING HISTORIC HOMES

 

C. Colebatch advised that she has drafted the correspondence for the Barrie and District Association of Realtors (BDAR) regarding historic homes in Barrie and will forward it to the Committee for their review and feedback.
