Kathleen Trainor, Executive Director for Tourism Barrie discussed the background related to the Sadlon Arena Expansion Review Report and introduced Jonathan Hack, Consultant from Sierra Planning and Management, and Richard Dabrus, Architect from WGD Architects.

 

Mr. Hack discussed slides concerning the following topics:

 

                     The project purpose:

o                     Review and assess future expansion opportunities for Sadlon Arena;

o                     To identify options that serve the City’s interests and in growing sports tourism activity; and

o                     Review proposed plans for expansion submitted by Barrie Colts.

                     The project process and timelines from 2022 to 2023;

                     The situational analysis conclusion, including the primarily commercial mandate, the condition of the 27 year old facility, governance of the facility, and any new investment to bring new opportunities;

                     A rendering of the six conceptual design options;

                     Charts illustrating a comparison of the design options and capital cost estimates; and

                     Renderings illustrating each of the six design options.

 

Members of Council asked several questions to Mr. Hack and Mr. Dabrus and received responses.
