Dr. Johns noted that a small reception was held for the recipients prior to the City Council Meeting and thanked Kathy Brislin, Policy Planner and Sarah Tuck, Committee Support Clerk for their assistance with the Heritage Barrie Committee and organizing the event. Dr. Johns provided details regarding the history of each of the properties that have been preserved and of Mr. Kinzie’s political, social and economic contributions to the City. Mayor Lehman advised that GlobalMedic runs capacity building programs in post conflict nations and provides disaster relief services to large catastrophes around the world. He highlighted Mr. Forward’s efforts in support the GlobalMedic Philippines Typhoon Haiyan Response mission in Eastern Samar, Philippines to provide the area with clean drinking water. Mr. Forward, thanked Mayor Lehman and members of Council for the recognition and for acknowledging the importance of the Philippines mission. 14-A-157 2  Presentation - AC/RCPRESENTATION BY REPRESENTATIVES OF THE SENIORS ADVISORY COMMITTEE REGARDING THE COMMITTEE’S FINDINGS AND RECOMMENDATIONS Ms. Gwen Kavanagh, Chair of the Seniors Advisory Committee and Mr. Ross Cotton provided a presentation regarding the Seniors Advisory Committee’s work, findings and recommendations. Ms. Kavanagh highlighted the discussions and the work of the committee over the course of their term from March to November, 2014 including the creation of sub-committees related to Communications, Civic Participation, Housing and Transportation, presentations to the Committee by City staff on various initiatives and services and the completion of a needs assessment survey. Ms. Kavanagh discussed the findings of the Committee, including the forecasted increase in aging population by 2031 and associated rationale. She discussed communication barriers and suggestions for improvement, the lack of available housing for seniors and issues around the affordability of maintaining a property. 14-A-158 2  Presentation - AC/RCPRESENTATION OF COUNCIL SERVICE AWARDS TO COUNCILLOR LYNN STRACHAN, COUNCILLOR BRIAN JACKSON AND COUNCILLOR ALEX NUTTALL Mayor Lehman recognized the accomplishments of the three outgoing members of Council and he displayed a video of Councillors Strachan, Jackson and Nuttall’s campaign clips for each of their first terms on Council. Mayor Lehman recognized Councillor Lynn Strachan for her efforts and achievements during her three terms as a member of Council representing Wards 5 and 2. He commented that Councillor Strachan is a fearless advocate and not afraid to speak her mind. Mayor Lehman noted that being in her mid-30's and sitting on Council for 11 years is quite an achievement. Mayor Lehman presented Councillor Strachan with a picture from the “Visibly Unseen” collection and a Bike Route street sign representing her advocacy for Active Transportation.
