14-A-015 2  Student/Mayor ItemCOMMENTS FROM OUTGOING STUDENT MAYORS Sydney Foster of Ardagh Bluffs Public School noted that she has spent the last few Mondays witnessing discussions including the 2014 Budget Plan and the Gilroy Plan of Subdivision. She extended her appreciation to the Mayor and Members of Council for the opportunity to be Student Mayor. She indicated that not many students are provided with this opportunity and she is grateful for it. In closing, Sydney again thanked City Council for all the work they do for the City of Barrie. Chemar Hensley of Hyde Park Public School thanked the Mayor and Members of Council for making the experience of being Student Mayor great. He also thanked the Principal, Vice Principal and his teacher at Hyde Park for providing him with the opportunity. Chemar indicated that he has learned a lot about the political process. He observed that he did not have a significant interest in politics prior to his term as Student Mayor but the influence and impact of decisions made by Council related to the community has changed his mind. Lehman presented Amber Bowen, a Firefighter with Central York Fire and Barrie resident with a certificate in recognition of her achievements as the reigning World Firefighter Combat Challenge Champion. Mayor Lehman highlighted Amber’s many athletic accomplishments including achieving 11 out of 12 gold medals in individual, tandem and co-ed worldwide firefighter challenges. He observed that Amber is an inspiration to the City. Amber thanked her family and friends for their support and City Council for taking the time to recognize Barrie athletes who have achieved success worldwide. 14-A-021 2  Presentation - AC/RCCHEQUE PRESENTATION BY REPRESENTATIVE OF THE BARRIE TRIATHLON COMMITTEE TO THE CITY OF BARRIE REGARDING THE CITY OF BARRIE’S ACCESSIBLE INCLUSIVE RECREATION (AIR) PROGRAM Mayor, J. Lehman provided background information related to the City of Barrie’s Accessible Inclusive Recreation Program. He noted that this program provides for an inclusive accessible recreation environment for those with disabilities. Mayor Lehman noted that this Program is subsidized by community donations, the largest being the Barrie Triathlon. Mr. Gerrie Maitland of the Barrie Triathlon Committee announced that funds raised through the Barrie Triathlon are being donated to the City of Barrie’s Accessible Inclusive Recreation (AIR Program). He noted that this event is held at the City of Barrie waterfront each summer. Mr. Maitland explained that the aim of the Triathlon Committee is to include participants of all ages and ability. 14-A-022 2  Presentation - AC/RCPRESENTATION TO THE CITY OF BARRIE BY REPRESENTATIVES OF THE GEORGIAN BAY VOLUNTEER SEARCH AND RESCUE REGARDING THE USE OF CITY LAND (LACKIE’S BUSH) FOR SEARCH AND RESCUE TRAINING PURPOSES Mr. Shawn Gibson of Georgian Bay Volunteer Search and Rescue presented a plaque to Mayor Lehman in appreciation for the City of Barrie allowing the Search and Rescue Team to use Lackie’s Bush for training. He stated that he looks forward to continuing this partnership in the future. Mr. Gibson noted that Georgian Bay Volunteer Search and Rescue is a not-for-profit organization that provides training and rescue assistance and use of equipment and trained personnel to support the Barrie Police Service.
