TMP-32197 2  Discussion ItemCOMMEMORATION PLAN - PRINCE OF WALES SCHOOL REMNANTS Vanessa Hicks of MHBC Planning Inc and Joel Doherty of HIP Developments provided an overview of the concept plans for the commemoration of Prince of Wales School located at 50 Bradford Street. Ms. Hicks commented on the structural conditions, safety concerns and site lines related to the remains of the former Prince of Wales Public School located on the subject lands. The Committee discussed the commemoration plan for Prince of Wales Public School and provided their feedback to Ms. Hicks, Mr. Doherty and staff in Development Services concerning the historical site, including requesting alternative options for the site location. Melanie Rumley of Access Barrie provided an update on staff resources in her department. Kristin Eatch of Creative and Economic Development Department commented on their role in Doors Open Barrie event, and their ability to support this event. The Committee provided their feedback to Ms. Marchant and Ms. Colebatch concerning the event. The Committee discussed the 2024 Ontario Heritage Conference to be held in Gravenhurst, Ontario between June 13 to June 15, 2024. The Committee members will review the list of events for the conference and report back at the next Committee meeting. HB1 2  RecommendationBARRIE INITIATED CORRESPONDENCE REGARDING A REQUEST TO THE PROVINCE TO EXTEND THE REMOVAL DATE OF LISTED (NON-DESIGNATED) PROPERTIES FROM THE MUNICIPAL HERITAGE REGISTER WHEREAS subsection 27(16) of the Ontario Heritage Act stipulates that any non-designated heritage property listed on the municipal register of properties as of December 31, 2022 shall be removed from the municipal register on or before January 1, 2027, if the council of the municipality does not give a notice of intention to designate the property under subsection 29(1) of the Ontario Heritage Act on or before January 1, 2027; and WHEREAS some 36,000 listed heritage properties in over 100 municipalities in Ontario are affected; and WHEREAS since January 1, 2023, the City of Barrie has been diligently working to: · review the municipal heritage register; · research the heritage value and interest of listed (non-designated) properties; · review and research the heritage value and interest of non-designated properties; · contact owners of such properties; determine which properties should potentially be designrecommended for adoption (Section "D")  Action details Not available
