| 2 | | | Item of Discussion | DOG OFF LEASH RECREATION AREA (DOLRA) FOR GUIDE DOGS DISCUSSION
W. Fischer, Supervisor of Parks Planning and Development discussed with the Committee the feasibility of implementing a Service Dog off leash area within the Barrie Molson Centre Dog Off Leash Recreation Area. The Committee provided their feedback to Mr. Fischer and agreed that there is a need for a dog off leash recreation area for service dogs.
Melissa Swales, community member and guide dog owner agreed with the suggestion for the segregated dog area for service dogs at the dog off leash recreation area at the Barrie Molson Centre would be a good idea. Ms. Swales commented she is not aware of any municipally owned dog off leash recreation area for service dogs in Canada.
L.A. Doyle, COPE Service Dogs and Member of the Board of Directors commented that service dogs are very expensive to own. Ms. Doyle thanked Mr. Fischer and the Committee for taking an interest in Service Dogs. | Received | |

W. Fischer, Supervisor of Parks Planning and Development provided an update on the Heritage Trail. Mr. Fischer noted that the Heritage Trail was a project initiated by former Mayor Willard Kinzie to promote Barrie’s History along the waterfront. Mr. Fischer commented that staff in the Engineering Department met with the Heritage Trail Working Group to review preliminary designs for the implementation of seven locations for signage along the waterfront in 2016. Mr. Fischer noted that each of the proposed locations along the waterfront will be accessible from the main waterfront recreational trail and will incorporate a review by C. Dillon to ensure they are AODA compliant. | Received | |
