Zimmerman, Transit Co-ordinators with the City of Barrie provided a presentation regarding Specialized Transit Services. Ms. Roy and Mr. Zimmerman discussed slides concerning the following topics: · An overview of conventional (fixed route) and specialized (door-to-door) transit services; · The fare structure changes effective March 1, 2016; · An overview of the application process for specialized transit; · A review of specialized transit services including: o Printable short bus schedules in accessible formats; o Low floor accessible buses equipped with ramps and lifts; o On bus priority and courtesy seating; o Interior bus stop displays and announcement systems; and · Transit Customer Service contact options. TMP-16004 1  Item of DiscussionAGE-FRIENDLY COMMUNITY GRANT - UPDATE C. Dillon, Accessibility Co-ordinator provided an update regarding the Age-Friendly Community Planning Grant project. Ms. Dillon noted that the next steps in the project will be to set up focus groups and develop a survey to obtain feedback from Seniors. She advised that when the survey for the Age-Friendly Community Planning Grant project is finalized, it will be posted to the City’s website on the Seniors Advisory Committee webpage. Ms. Dillon noted that she contacted Access Barrie to discuss promoting the Age-Friendly Community Planning Grant project through local media and social media platforms.Received  Action details Not available
TMP-16005 1  Item of DiscussionSENIOR EVENT UPDATES / CALENDAR The Committee met and discussed senior events and information updates. R. Cotton reviewed correspondence from the Minister Responsible for Seniors Affairs regarding the nomination process for the 2016 Senior of the Year Award. Mr. Cotton noted that the deadline to submit nominations for the Senior of the Year Award is April 30, 2016. R. Cotton provided an update regarding the Senior Advisory Committee’s recommendation at its meeting held on December 14, 2015, requesting more affordable seniors housing in the City of Barrie. Mr. Cotton advised that on February 29, 2016, Council passed Motion 16-G-024 requesting the Barrie Municipal Non-Profit Housing Corporation to consider construction of non-profit seniors housing in the City of Barrie. J. Youell-Robson circulated the Parkview Allandale Seniors (PALS) newsletter to Committee members. Ms. Youell-Robson noted that the Parkview Centre will be hosting events to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. H. Stone advised that March, 2016 is Red Cross Month.
