TMP-6098 2  Item of DiscussionCANADA STANDARDS ASSOCIATION (CSA) PARAMETERS FOR ACCESSIBLE PLAYGROUND EQUIPMENT C. Maher, Landscape Architectural Planner and W. Fischer, Supervisor Parks Planning provided a presentation regarding the Canada Standards Association (CSA) parameters for making outdoor play spaces accessible. Mr. Maher commented that in 2000 Centennial Beach was deemed as the first accessible playground in the City of Barrie and it is anticipated that the Lampman Lane Park will be the next accessible park. Mr. Maher noted that since there are over eighty parks in the City of Barrie the intent is to focus on Community parks by having accessible outdoor play spaces available. W. Fischer commented that due to costs related to replacing playground equipment, Community parks contained the appropriate amenities, drainage and walkways to be cost effective. The Committee asked questions regarding the information provided and received responses from staff. The Committee agreed that new and redeveloped Community Park outdoor play spaces should be available for all types of accessibilities.Received  Action details Not available
TMP-6099 2  Item of DiscussionPRESENTATION ON URBAN DESIGN R. Cotton, Policy Planner provided a presentation concerning the City of Barrie Intensification Area Urban Design Guidelines. Mr. Cotton discussed intensification in the City of Barrie and the proposed areas of the City for the urban design guidelines. He also commented on the basis of the guidelines and the status of the Intensification Area Urban Design Guidelines. Mr. Cotton discussed the guidelines and the application for active transportation and accessibility in the City of Barrie. TMP-6100 2  Item of DiscussionACCESS AWARENESS WEEK K. Demberline provided an update on the proposed art contest for Access Awareness Week. Access Awareness Week takes place during the week of May 27th to June 1st, 2013. The Committee discussed ideas and suggestions for the event. K. Demberline will confirm with the school board to ensure permission is given to allow students to take part in the proposed art contest. The Committee chose to set up a sub-Committee for Access Awareness Week Planning. K. Demberline, D. Kerr, M. Papp-Belayneh, M. Crocker and C. Wilson will participate on Sub-Committee. C. Dillon, Accessibility Co-ordinator announced that on May 27, 2013 at the Southshore Centre a kickoff to National Access Awareness Week is planned. She noted that a representative from the Accessibility Directorate of Ontario (ADO) will be providing a presentation on the new Integrated Accessibility Standards Regulation (IASR) on the Design for Open Public Spaces.
