12-A-010 2  Presentation - AC/RCMayor Lehman recognized Eddie Scott for his act of heroism in assisting his elderly neighbour Mr. Bill Gallimore on November 7, 2011. Mayor Lehman described the events that took place and noted that he received a request from Mr. Gallimore’s family to recognize Mr. Scott for his efforts. Mayor Lehman expressed his sincere appreciation to Mr. Scott on behalf of the City of Barrie for his valiant act of kindness and commented that he is proud to live in a City where people go to great lengths to help one another. Mayor Lehman presented Mr. Scott with a small token of appreciation for his act of heroism. He stated that Mr. Scott is to be admired and commended as his kind compassion and willingness to help is an example to all citizens. 12-A-011 2  DeputationWes Prosser, Chairman of the Workshop Advisory Committee associated with Vitoria Village addressed City Council regarding motion 12-G-010 concerning the 2012 Business Plan. He stated that he realized that City Council is faced with important decisions and wanted to provide City Council with information concerning the woodworking program that takes place at Victoria Village. He explained that the club has been in existence for eight years and has approximately 55 members. He commented that memberships are $50.00 annually and membership is open to anyone 19 and older with a rudimentary knowledge of woodworking. Mr. Prosser described the operation and various activities that take place in the woodworking shop. He noted that a group of volunteers monitor the shop and provide assistance to those using the facility. He commented that the membership provides their own materials for the operation of the shop and that the membership fundraises for additional tools and equipment. 12-A-013 2  Presentation - AC/RCFAMILY LITERACY DAY AND ONTARIO EARLY YEARS CENTRE Pat McCullagh of the Ontario Early Years Centre of Simcoe Community Services provided a presentation to City Council concerning the services and programs offered by the Early Years Centre. She noted that the Centre is committed to providing quality programs and activities that promote early literacy and school readiness skills for children ages 0-6. Ms. McCullagh explained that Family Literacy Day was celebrated on January 27, 2012 with various activities taking place at the Centre to promote literacy skills. As a parent utilizing the services of the Early Years Centre, Dulce Moreira commented that the programs offered through the Centre encourage child-parent interaction and strategies that parents can take home to practice with their children.
